Biei & Furano Flower Sea with Blue Pond

The morning: Blue Pond before the coaches

Pickup runs 07:30 to 08:00 if your hotel is inside three kilometres of Sapporo Station, which covers the Kita and Chuo hotel belt but not the southern edge of Susukino. Everyone else meets the van at the North Exit Group Bus Terminal at 08:00. The pickup order is the driver's to set, and the listing asks you to be ready ten minutes early.

The run north is two and a half hours on the Do-Ō Expressway, which puts the van at Shirogane Blue Pond around 10:30 for a thirty-minute stop. That timing matters more than it looks: the big coaches out of Sapporo and Asahikawa tend to arrive later in the morning, and the pond's cobalt colour reads best before the sun is directly overhead. The pond is a flood-control basin built after the 1988 Mt Tokachi eruption, and the colour comes from aluminium compounds in the water, it is not a natural lake, which is worth knowing before someone tells you it is.

Shirahige Waterfall is ten minutes further up the valley and gets twenty minutes: an underground spring that emerges straight out of the cliff face into the Biei River, best seen from the Blue Bridge. Then the Roller Coaster Road, which is a pass-by rather than a stop, a straight farm road with a series of steep dips that the van drives rather than parks on.

Lunch, but only on Saturdays

This is the single most misread line on the listing. The Japanese buffet with fresh Hokkaido ingredients and the unlimited cantaloupe, the thing reviewers rave about, are attached to the Saturday option. Book a Tuesday and there is no included meal at all.

When it does run, it lands around 12:20 for an hour and travellers are unambiguous about it. John from the United States, on 27 June 2026, wrote: "The melon at lunch was amazing. I'm still full!!" Janelle from Malaysia, in August 2025, called the buffet and the Furano melon "the sweetest, juiciest we've ever had."

If your date is not a Saturday, bring food. The restaurants along the Furano flower route in July and August are swamped, and an hour of your free time can vanish in a queue.

The afternoon: two flower farms, not one

Shikisai-no-Oka gets a full hour from about 14:00, with the admission already in your fare, 800 yen for high-school age and up from July to September, a rate that went up in 2026. It is fifteen hectares of planted bands on a hillside, over thirty varieties rotating through the season, which is why it photographs well from June right through September even when the lavender is over. The alpaca paddock costs an extra 500 yen if you want it.

Farm Tomita follows at about 15:20 for fifty minutes. Free to enter, open 8:30 to 18:00, and the reason most people come to Furano at all. The 2026 season ran 20 June to 10 August, and the lavender peak was roughly 12 to 22 July, the farm publishes a daily forecast, so you can check your date rather than hope. Outside the peak the fields are green and the shop still sells the lavender soft serve.

The van turns for Sapporo about 16:10 and drops at the station's north exit.

Take it if you want the small-group version of the flower day

Nine seats means nine people at the toilet, nine people back in the van, and a driver who can wait an extra five minutes without derailing a schedule. That shows up in the reviews more than the scenery does. Susanna from Italy, on 27 July 2026, wrote that "we had enough time to properly visit both flower fields, the lake and the waterfalls." Stephanie from Singapore, in June 2026, singled out "clear instruction" and safe driving. Heidy from the United States, back in September 2025, put the trade in one line: "Distance was quite far but our driver Tommy was very good... We were given enough time for each site."

It is also, at $42.59, cheaper than the forty-seat coach doing a similar route. That combination is unusual enough to be the main reason to book this one.

Skip it if you need a guided commentary or a guaranteed lunch

The driver guides, which is not the same as a guide who is not driving. Commentary happens at stops, not at 100 km/h on the expressway, and the listing describes the role as "driver cum guide" rather than a licensed tour guide.

Skip it too if your date is not a Saturday and you want the meal included, the coach version bundles lunch into some packages, and the H.I.S. seasonal coach codes it into the package name. And skip it if you are pregnant or over 70: the listing rules both out, which is unusual but explicit.

One more constraint that catches people: luggage. The operator asks you to pack light because there is little space in a nine-seat van, so this is not a tour to take on a check-out day with two suitcases.

The WhatsApp requirement is real

You must provide a WhatsApp number during checkout. After booking, the operator adds you to a group with the driver and the support team, and by 20:00 the night before sends a GPS-pinned meeting map, the vehicle's plate number and your pickup time. If you do not use WhatsApp, this is a problem to solve before you book, not after.

The upside is that a pinned map removes the single biggest failure mode on the fixed-meeting-point tours: standing at the wrong exit of Sapporo Station at 07:55.

The punctuality policy has teeth

The listing states it plainly: the shared tour departs strictly on time, it cannot wait for latecomers, and if you are unreachable at departure the booking is forfeited without refund. That is harsher than the platform's own cancellation policy, which gives you a full refund up to 24 hours before.

Practically: decide the night before, not on the morning. Cancel by the deadline if the forecast is bad and rebook, rather than gambling on the weather and losing the fare.

What you still pay on the day

Less than on most tours here, which is the point of it. The Shikisai-no-Oka ticket is covered. Blue Pond, Shirahige Waterfall and Farm Tomita are free to walk into. What is left is lunch on non-Saturday departures, the optional 500-yen alpaca feed, and whatever the Farm Tomita shop extracts from you in lavender ice cream and melon.

Compare that with the Sapporo city day, where three of six stops charge at the door, and the difference over ten hours is real money.
