Nine tours make up this catalog the rest of the year; only five keep selling once winter sets in, and two of those five exist only in this season.

The gates that keep short hours

Farm Tomita has nothing to see between the lavender cutting in August and the following June, and Shikisai-no-Oka's colour bands only run June through September, so both flower tours stop selling outright rather than running an empty-field version of themselves. The Cape Kamui coast follows a stricter rule: the gate onto the cliff trail keeps summer hours as late as 18:30 in June, but from December to March it opens only 10:00 to 15:00, and closes outright in bad winter weather. That short window is the actual reason the coast tour does not run in winter, not a blanket seasonal choice by the operator.

Asahiyama Zoo does not close, but it does shrink: winter hours run 10:30 to 15:30 rather than the summer session's 9:30 to 17:15, which reshapes every tour built around it.

Shorter hours, and the one thing you cannot see in summer

From 11 November to 7 April, Asahiyama Zoo runs 10:30 to 15:30 with last entry at 15:00, well short of the summer session's 9:30 to 17:15. What that shorter window buys you is the penguin walk, a keeper-led walk of the zoo's king and Gentoo penguins across the snow that happens only during this winter session and nowhere on the summer calendar. Admission is 1,000 yen for high-school age and up, free below that, and it is included on both zoo tours here: the year-round Asahiyama Zoo and Blue Pond day and the winter-specific zoo and snowmobile run.

Because the zoo closes at 15:30, both routes structure the whole day around an earlier start than their summer equivalents.

The two tours built only for this season

The ski day at Asarigawa costs $202.79 with the bus, full equipment, a lift pass and a two-hour beginner lesson all included, which is why it looks expensive next to the sightseeing coaches: the number covers an entire day of gear rental most visitors would otherwise pay for separately. Gloves are the one item left off that included list, so bring your own regardless of how complete the rest of the kit is.

The winter run north leaves the Sapporo TV Tower at 07:50, earlier than most of the summer routes, because of the zoo's shortened winter hours: with entry closing at 15:30 rather than 17:15, the day needs an earlier start to fit everything in. It pairs Asahiyama's penguin walk with an optional snowmobile session at Biei Chiyoda Farm, though the snowmobile stop is not guaranteed; the guide chooses on the day between Shikisai-no-Oka and the snowmobile farm depending on how busy each one is.

One week, three sites

The 77th Sapporo Snow Festival runs 4 to 11 February 2027 across three sites: Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome. It is the single busiest week of the winter calendar, and hotel rooms and winter tour seats around it sell out earliest of the whole year. None of the tours on this page are festival tours themselves, but anyone timing a winter trip around the festival should book the ski day or the winter zoo run well ahead of that week rather than counting on last-minute availability.

The warning worth reading before you book

Snow-season traffic on the Asahikawa road is routine rather than exceptional, and the operators running the northern routes are direct about the consequence: stops missed to snow-season traffic are not refunded. The zoo day's listing states this outright, and the winter zoo run's operator takes it a step further, telling travellers not to book an onward flight the same evening as a tour day. This is not a rare edge case in a Hokkaido winter; it is the default risk of driving two to two and a half hours north on packed snow, and it is worth building slack into the evening after any winter tour rather than scheduling a tight connection against it.

Fewer routes, similar prices, different crowd driver

Winter does not carry a blanket price premium the way it does in some destinations; most of the year-round tours cost the same in January as they do in July. What changes is which tours exist at all and what drives demand around them.

A summer day out of Sapporo is cheaper on average and gives you more routes to choose from; a winter day is fewer options but includes two products, the ski day and the winter zoo run, that do not exist in any other season.
